Senior WGS major Beth Holden was recently featured in the Knoxville News-Sentinel, the area’s paper of record, as a guest columnist. Beth wrote about her opposition to the legislation recently passed by the Tennessee state legislature that would put in place unconstitutional barriers to abortion access in the state. Gov. Bill Lee is expected to sign the bill into law, which will make abortion illegal in Tennessee once the fetal heartbeat can be detected, which is as early as six weeks. In the op-ed, Beth situates the abortion ban and other potential consequences of the law in terms of reproductive freedom and health care for all those in the state who can become pregnant.
